Since the very first edition in 1923, the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans – the most famous endurance race in the world – has been the inspiration for numerous books, literature and media coverage.
The 2003 event, in which Bentley were victorious for the first time since 1930, was a superb opportunity for two authors (a photographer and a writer) to do what most motor sports fans can only dream of.
As the drivers set out for 24 hours of hope, and the winners for 24 hours of uncertainty, our two authors set off on foot to cover just one slow lap of the mythical 13.65 kilometer circuit. To explore the lost lonely corners away from the crowds, to experience hitherto unknown sensations, to view this great human and technological challenge from new angles.
A tribute to slowness in a world of extreme speed, a chance encounter with some remarkable characters from behind the scenes, a fresh look at this unique circuit where history is made year after year.
" Le Tour le Plus Long " (The Longest Lap) is the result of this original research, presented in black and white – the colours of the night and the day, and the chequered flag - with a preface by Tom Kristensen, who reached Jacky Ickx’s all-time record in 2004.
